Project overview

Together with our partners Reporters without Borders Sweden, Foundation for Press Freedom (FLIP its acronym in Spanish), and the Latin American Center for Journalistic Research (CLIP its acronym in Spanish), “Networks against silence” is strengthening Latin American civil society organisations and the ecosystem of media and investigative journalists committed to the defence of freedom of expression and against censorship, the agenda of democratic inclusion, the fight against censorship and disinformation and respect for human rights, through the promotion of regional networking and increased access to tools, resources, technical capacities and strategic knowledge.

The regional program addresses a challenging context through two interrelated components:

  1. The first, implemented by FLIP and Reporters without Borders Sweden, is focused on the increased capacity of Latin American civil society organisations in defence of press freedom, together with financial support and the facilitation of exchanges between organizations, thus generating positive incentives to combat censorship in Latin America. The action will allow for the recovery of higher quality enabling spaces for dialogue, research and freedom of expression.
  2. The second component, implemented by CLIP, will contribute to the construction of a new inclusive informative narrative, respectful of human rights, freedom of expression and the environment, in a context that protects the media and civil society in the region. This component considers the challenges of digital transformation and works with the target group of investigative journalists to, through the development of capacities in technology and digital resources, produce regional information that increases the capacity of citizens to demand accountability, the protection of human rights and environmental and climate justice. Ethical and timely reporting from a feminist, diverse and equitable investigative approach also promotes collaborative learning and solidarity, making care a part of the ethos of journalism.
