A single mother of seven breaks barriers through land rights education and sheer determination
Kermah’s turning point came when she joined a training session on Women’s Land Rights, organized by our partner YOPTIl. For the first time, she learned that women have the right to own and use land something she had never truly believed was possible for her.
This new understanding lit a fire inside her. She returned home and started conversations with her extended family, asking for access to their shared family land. At first, it wasn’t easy. The idea of a woman claiming land was not widely accepted. But Kermah did not give up. She kept talking, kept explaining, and kept standing firm in her request.
After weeks of difficult conversations, her family finally agreed.
With a small piece of land in hand, Kermah began farming. She planted palm, plantain, pineapple, cassava, and cocoa working the soil with her own hands, often with her children by her side. Day by day, the farm began to grow.
Now, the crops from her land are not just feeding her family they are paying her children’s school fees and allowing her to care for them with dignity. What once felt impossible is now her daily reality: being a provider, a farmer, and a role model for her children. Kermah’s story is more than just personal success it is a clear example of how powerful women become when they are given access to knowledge and resources. Her courage shows that when women are empowered, they don’t just lift themselves—they lift entire families and communities.
At ForumCiv Liberia, we believe in the strength and potential of local women like Kermah. We are proud to work alongside partners like YOPTIl to make sure more women can access their rights, take control of their futures, and change their lives for the better.
