ForumCiv Liberia sets strategic direction for 2025–2028
Anchored in the broader goals of ForumCiv’s Global Policy Platform (2024–2033), the strategy serves as a guiding document to support civil society, advance human rights, and strengthen democratic governance throughout the country. This strategic framework is built around key focus areas that are deeply relevant to the Liberian context. These include defending human rights and civic freedoms, promoting gender equality, addressing land and natural resource governance, and supporting environmental and climate justice. The strategy also emphasizes the importance of inclusive governance, community resilience, and long-term sustainability.
Over the next four years, ForumCiv Liberia will continue working closely with local organizations, communities, and institutional partners to bring the strategy to life. The aim is not only to deliver programs but to empower citizens and civil society actors to take a leading role in shaping Liberia’s future. Whether through supporting advocacy efforts, funding grassroots initiatives, or creating spaces for dialogue, the strategy puts communities at the center of change.
One of the unique strengths of the strategy is its emphasis on cross-sector collaboration. ForumCiv will be deepening its partnerships with government institutions, civil society networks, traditional leaders, academia, and the private sector to ensure that implementation is both inclusive and sustainable. Special attention will be given to addressing systemic barriers such as unequal land rights, limited access to justice, and persistent discrimination against women, youth, and marginalized groups.
The Country Strategy also responds to the urgent need for climate action in Liberia. As the effects of climate change continue to threaten livelihoods, especially in rural and forested areas, ForumCiv’s focus on environmental and climate justice will help build resilience at the community level, while advocating for stronger environmental governance nationally.
The strategy was formally introduced in April 2025 at an event in Monrovia, where traditional leaders, civil society partners, and stakeholders came together to reflect on Liberia’s development journey and share their hopes for the future. Since then, regional partners have begun aligning their activities with the strategic priorities, and implementation is already underway. As ForumCiv Liberia moves forward with this important work, the team remains committed to transparency, collaboration, and community ownership. The next four years are seen as a time of both challenge and opportunity a time to strengthen democracy, protect rights, and build a Liberia that works for everyone.
