Göran Holmqvist becomes the new Secretary General of ForumCiv
– I want to provide long-term conditions for ForumCiv’s important work for democracy and human rights, and broaden the organization’s sources of funding, says Göran Holmqvist.
Göran Holmqvist most recently worked as a project researcher at the Institute for Futures Studies. He holds a PhD in Peace and Development Research from the University of Gothenburg and has an extensive background in international development cooperation. After his time as a department head at Sida, he has frequently contributed sharp analyses in the aid policy debate in Sweden in recent years.
The Board highlights that Göran Holmqvist, with his experience and analytical skills, can strengthen ForumCiv’s voice in the discussion about Sweden’s role in the world. A clear and fact-based narrative will, according to the Board, provide a strong foundation for building trust with institutional donors, philanthropists, foundations, and companies.
– Göran Holmqvist brings long managerial experience, a broad network, and deep knowledge of development cooperation. He contributes unique qualities that will strengthen ForumCiv and our members for the future, says Magnus Lindell, Chair of ForumCiv.
– In Sweden, since the early days of development cooperation, there has been a broad political consensus that the Swedish people’s engagement in global issues should be encouraged. But not anymore. When I get the chance, I will fight to make that engagement flourish again, says Göran Holmqvist. With around 180 member organizations across the country, we actually represent a popular movement. We are a force to be reckoned with.
